My most visited coffee place, and my favourite. Award-nominated interior, a bakery from 8am, and food worth staying for.

Fika is a restaurant that takes coffee seriously, rather than a coffee shop that also does food. Fermented drinks, experiments with local produce, and a garden of their own that some of it comes from.

That ambition has a cost: the menu can be genuinely overwhelming. Order from the breakfast constructor and you skip the paralysis entirely.

The bakery opens at 8am, and the bread is worth taking away with you.

The room has the reputation it deserves — it was nominated for ArchDaily’s Building of the Year 2025, where the architects NAAW turned 250 square metres of an existing building into something that looks like nowhere else in the city.

It is my favourite place in Almaty. I usually sit at the bar.

Go before 10am at the weekend, or after 3pm — in between, it is full. In the warm months there is a barbecue on Sundays.
